Ms. Carol Louise Stewart, age 81 of Chapel Hill, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at her residence.
Carol Stewart, age 81, died on September 9, 2023, after a battle with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), a rare Parkinsonian-type brain disorder. Born in Georgia to LTC William Davis Carswell and Marion T. Carswell, Carol was a self-described “Army brat” and lived with her family in many states across the U.S. as well as in Japan and Germany during her childhood.
She graduated from Frankfurt American High School and from the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston. Carol married Edward Stewart in 1965, and they had three children: Constance (deceased), Katharine, and David.
She loved her children fiercely and always encouraged them to pursue their dreams. From her habit of reading them bedtime stories from their earliest days, they developed a deep love of books and reading, much like her own. Indeed, Carol always loved visiting and supporting her local library, and she served as an administrator for the Martin County Library Foundation in Florida for several years. Prior to that, she worked as a human resources benefits administrator for Galey & Lord in North Carolina.
Carol is survived by her brother, William Davis Carswell III (Gloria) of Senoia, GA; daughter, Katharine Stewart (Jada Walker) of Chapel Hill, NC; and her son David Stewart of Lead, SD.
