Mr. Carl Dudley Richardson, age 76, of Sanford, NC entered eternal rest on Friday, March 7, 2025.
The Obituary
Carl D. Richardson was born on May 20, 1948, one of ten children to Elder Elmer Richardson and First Lady Bessie Richardson in Campbellsville, Kentucky.
Carl left Campbellsville in 1967 when he entered the United States Army. He served our country in the Vietnam War, advancing through the ranks to the position of Sergeant. Being wounded for the 3rd time Carl was awarded a Purple Heart and later chose to leave the army. He eventually returned home and started working for General Electric in Louisville, Kentucky, then on to a power plant in Indiana. In the early 70’s Carl decided to move to New Jersey after visiting his Aunt Sarah one year on vacation.
In New Jersey, Carl began working for multiple companies: The State of New Jersey as a Senior Maintenance person, bus driver and taxicab driver in Long Branch, NJ. After working for over 20 years with the State, he decided to take on another full-time job with the U.S. Postal Service. Carl married his "wife for life" Denise Richardson, in 1996.
Carl continued working for the State for approximately 26 years before retiring. He remained working at the post office while working his own business doing landscaping, lawn mower repair, construction and debris hauling. He became the man who had everything you needed in his backyard. Carl would go on to retire from the U.S. Post Office after 17 years of Service on June 30, 2012.
Carl became a member of Joseph T. Newman Lodge, Neptune, New Jersey in 1989, serving in the position of Esteemed Lecturing Knight and later as a Trustee. He became a member of Council 21 and in 1991 he received his highest degree in Elkdom, his PGER Honors in Baltimore, Maryland. After the closing of JT Newman Lodge, Carl joined Walter J. Conley Lodge in Freehold, New Jersey. Carl would later move to North Carolina where he would become a member of Brick City Lodge in Sanford, NC. He was also a member of New Horizon Masonic Lodge in Asbury Park, New Jersey and an active member of The DAV (Disabled American Veterans), also in Asbury Park.
He is predeceased by his parents Elmer and Bessie Richardson, his siblings Mrs. Georgia L. Rowe, Ms. Edith Richardson, Mrs. Pearlie G. Adams, and Mr. Ernest G. Richardson, all of Kentucky and stepson Keith Owen.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Denise Richardson; his children, seven girls, Veronica (NJ), Yuvondra (husband, Timothy) of Kentucky and Tayana (NC), Taniya (NC), Tivona (NJ), Tamara, and Tierra (FL). Carl has earned the title of “Pop Pop” from his grandchildren, twelve boys: Terrell, Ronald, E’Shawn, Lamar (Trenae), Andre, Caleb, Javon, Kamil, Braxton, Bryce, Jase, and Brennden; six girls: Zaria, Kamira, Kamiya, Jiana, Zalaya, and Tameka; his great-grandchildren, Nahdiere, Ka'Rell, Roniyah, Teriell, Ronald, De'Lianna, Lyric, E'Shawn, Kyree, Channah, and Amanda; his siblings, Minister Willie Joe Richardson, Ms. Dorothy S. Hall, Mrs. Thelma B. Martin, Mrs. Florence Caldwell, all of Kentucky and Mrs. Bonita M. Smith (Jerry) of Georgia; his favorite “Fussing Partners”, nephew, Leroy Caldwell (Baby Brother), sister in law, Deborah Alexander, and brother in law, Charles S. Luckey, also Derrick, Dedra, Dwayne and Sonya, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. We can't forget his grand-dog, his buddy and his “protector”, Aubrey.
