Mr. Burnice Eugene Gray, Sr. age 73 of 534 East Alston Rd, Pittsboro, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill, NC.
Burnice Eugene Gray, Sr. was born on October 23, 1947, in Chatham County, North Carolina to Eugene Gray and Bernice Taylor Scurlock. He was a lifelong resident of Pittsboro, NC. Burnice departed this life on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC.
Burnice was a graduate of Horton High School class of 1967 where he was well known as a star varsity football player and drummer for the school band. He was employed at Selig Manufacturing Company for over 25 years, where he worked as a laborer. Burnice later retired from a supervising position at Mountaire Farms in the early 2000s. Burnice loved to barbeque, listen to Marvin Gaye and go deep-sea fishing with friends.
Burnice married Janice White of Siler City, North Carolina in 1969. Through this union, they were blessed with two beautiful children, a son, and a daughter.
Burnice leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 51 years Janice White Gray, son Burnice Gray, Jr. (Sheri Gray) of Pittsboro, and daughter Tiandra Gray of Cary, NC. He leaves his sister, Sandra Foxx of Bonlee, NC, brothers Joseph Scurlock and George Scurlock of Pittsboro, and James Leon Scurlock (Princetta) of Walkertown, NC. He also leaves to mourn his uncle, J.D. Taylor of Pittsboro, aunt Faye Crump of Yonkers, NY, friend and neighbor J.P. Alston of Pittsboro, four step-grandchildren, one step-great grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ruby Gray and Willie Mae Crump, and grandparents Eurie and Willie Taylor.
