Burma Jewel Bullock, age 92 of Sanford, NC transitioned into eternal rest Friday, July 3, 2020 at her residence.
Burma Bullock was born on June 21, 1928 and left her earthly home on July 3, 2020. She was born the only child of the late Luther Raines and Ina Evans Raines of Apex, NC. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 32 years, Benjamin Thomas Bullock, of Sanford, NC
Burma attended the Mary Potter School in Oxford, NC, Winston State Teacher’s College, in Winston Salem, NC, and the Indiana University.
Burma spent her early childhood in Apex, until the death of her mother, at which time, she began living with her beloved aunt, Nora “Pigeon” Lockhart, in Raleigh, NC.
When Burma married, she moved to Sanford and began her storied teaching career at St. Clair Elementary School. Many students recall her as their favorite teacher. She had a great love for her students and children, in general.
During her lifetime, Burma was involved in many civic and church activities. As a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, she was a deaconess, a Greeter, a member of the Missionary Society, the Scholarship Committee, and the Media Sales group. She was also an Ambassador to the Temple Theater.
Burma leaves to honor her memory, two nieces, Erin Simmons Johnson (Farris), of Watkinsville, GA and Cheryl Simmons of Alexandria, VA; cousins, Annette Cox, of Holly Springs, NC, Otis Jean Adams, of Apex, NC, and Caswell Evans, of Lakeside, MI, and a host of other relatives and friends.
