Ms. Brenda Lou (Durham) Jones, age 80 of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC.
The Obituary
The life of Brenda Lou (Durham) Jones began on November 30, 1943, in Washington, D.C. She was born to the late, Robert Durham and Ailphronza Roberta McLean. She transitioned to eternal rest on July 14, 2024, at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, N.C.
Brenda attended W.B. Wicker, the only all-black grade school in Sanford, from first through twelfth grade where she graduated in 1961. Her early introduction to Christ was at Fair Promise A.M.E. Zion Church where she later married her late husband, Jerry Jones, Jr., and supported various church events.
Brenda had many talents which she shared with others, such as baking her famous cakes. She would make cakes for church functions and sell them at the local barbershop. She worked at Ron’s Barn fourteen years, and everyone was inspired by her outgoing personality and straight-forward demeanor.
Brenda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Jones Jr.; mother, Ailphronza Roberta McLean; and one brother, Waylon Durham.
She is survived by her children, Kelli DeShae Steele (Tammy Newton) of Sanford, NC, Jerry Lyndon Jones III (Danielle) of Ewa Beach, HI, Kim Tuck of Sanford, NC, and Darrin Johnson (Maureen) of Radcliff, KY; siblings, Hildred Durham Williams of Goldston, NC, Gracen Donald of Sanford, NC, Dorlene Durham of Sanford, NC, Waymon McLean of Sanford, NC, Annette Burgess of Johnsonville, SC, and Robert Durham of Sanford, NC; in-laws, Regina Houchins (Richard) of Boomer WV and Dwight Barron (Deborah) of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Tristan Lyndon Jones, Darrin Alec Johnson II, Brenna Maureen Johnson, Dama Tuck, Marc Tuck (Kyle), and Shantika Tuck. Each of her grandchildren brought immense joy to her life, but her grandson, Tristan, was her heart and soul, holding an extra special place in her heart.
She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Andrea Murdock of Greensboro, NC, Gina Shay Pope of Winston-Salem, NC, DeAndrew McLean of Durham, NC, Nikisha Donald of Sanford, NC, Waymon (CJ) McLean (Briana) of Rock Hill, SC, Nicole Donald of Greenville, NC, and Devon McLean of McLeansville, NC.
