Mr. Brandon Terrell Matthews, age 19, of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Monday, April 20, 2026, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.
Obituary
Kind, caring, and respectful, Brandon was truly unique. He never let the weight of a situation get him down and always found the silver lining in any circumstance. Steady and determined, he set his eyes on a goal and allowed his quiet confidence to see him through. His thoughtfulness and care for others were evident in his decision to give the gift of life and restoration to others. We will forever be grateful for his presence in our lives.
This beautiful soul was born on September 9, 2006, to Yolanda Matthews and Kenneth McGee, Sr. Guided by his parents and grandparents, Hubert and Helen Matthews, Brandon began his journey in this thing called life. His early education began at Moncure School, and he was a proud 2025 graduate of Seaforth High School. He continued his education through the NCWORKS NextGen Youth Program to complete his certification in HVAC. He was scheduled to graduate on April 20, 2026, but God had a different plan.
Following the example set by his family, Brandon’s walk with God began at Liberty Chapel Church, where he became a member as a young child under the leadership of Apostle Norma Bryant. At Liberty Chapel, he served as a youth usher and sang with the male choir. He later attended Christian Provision Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Charles Mellette. During that time, he spent a short period working with the Media Team, but his true love was playing games with and reading to the children.
Brandon loved his family and friends, and they loved him dearly. He will truly be missed by his mother, Yolanda; his father, Kenneth; his grandparents, Hubert and Helen Matthews; and his siblings, Kenneth McGee Jr., Kaniya, and Armonie McGee. He shared a special bond with his aunt Lisa Lassiter and cousins Brittany Hayes (Robert), Christian Lassiter, and Tyler Matthews, as well as his aunt Tabatha Archibald (Allen). He will forever be remembered by the McPherson and Amatucci families, who loved Brandon as their own.
Although one life was taken from us on April 20th, five other lives were saved the very next day, his heart was beating, his lungs were breathing, his kidneys were filtering toxins and his liver was cleansing within the bodies of five different people because of this one young man’s decision to share the gift of life over 75 to 80 lives will be extended. From Life to Death to Life… Brandon’s love of life and people not only lives on in our memories but also in the lives of others.
