Mrs. Betty Lane Weatherly, age 81 of Broadway, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC.
Obituary
Betty Lane Yarborough Weatherly, affectionately known as Bette, Sister Betty, Grandma Betty, Aunt Bette, and Ms. Weatherly. A native of Broadway, North Carolina, in Eastern Lee County, she answered God’s call to eternal rest on the evening of Saturday, February 15th, 2025, at Central Carolina Hospital with her devoted sister, Carolyn, by her side.
Born to the late Rosa Lee Judd and Thomas Yarborough, Betty was raised in Broadway, North Carolina, where she cultivated a deep sense of family, faith, and service. She was a proud graduate of Shawtown High School in Harnett County and carried the values of dedication and hard work throughout her life.
Betty found love and companionship in her late husband, Winford Weatherly, and from their union, two sons were born, Winford Jr. and Laverne. She had a long and accomplished career in manufacturing and textiles, making significant contributions at Eaton Electric in designing and producing power management products. However, her most cherished role was as a Certified Nursing Assistant, where she served with compassion, ensuring the well-being of those in her care.
A faithful woman of God, Sister Betty loved the Lord. She was a devoted member and “Mother” of Greater Zion Holy Temple United Holy Church of America under the leadership of Elder Joseph L. Barnes and Lady Glenda Barnes. She loved to worship and found great joy in singing her favorite song, “Everybody Ought to Praise His Name,” believing that if a robin could say thank you, so could she.
Though her earthly journey has ended, Betty’s love, wisdom, and unwavering faith continue to shine through those she leaves behind. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winford, Sr.; her two sons, Winford, Jr. and Laverne, mother Rosa, father Thomas; a brother, William Yarborough, a sister, Vivian Yarborough; grandchildren, Susie and Joshua; and one great-grandson, Rashard, Jr.
Betty is survived by her three grandchildren: Kitshea Brooks of Siler City, North Carolina, Shante’ Weatherly, and Rashard Weatherly, both of Broadway, North Carolina. Eight great-grandchildren: Morgan, Madeena, and Malani of Siler City, North Carolina, Sireal, Ironie, Thomas, Payton, and Taliaha, all of Broadway, North Carolina; her loving sister and devoted caregiver, Carolyn Thompson of Sanford, NC; three brothers: Louis (Edna) Yarborough of Broadway, North Carolina; Carlton Yarborough of Carthage, North Carolina, and Clifford Yarborough of Stamford, Connecticut; a niece whom she helped raise: Janice Edwards (Robert) of Stamford, Connecticut; one daughter in law: Eleanor Weatherly of Broadway, NC. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, all touched by her kindness and unwavering faith.
Betty was deeply grateful for the love and dedication of her family, especially her brother Carlton, nephew Carl Jr., and niece Janice, whose support meant the world to her. She was a guiding light, a source of strength, and a beacon of faith for all who knew her.
Though she will be missed, her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire future generations. As she rests in the arms of the Lord, we rejoice in knowing that her race is won, her faith is rewarded, and her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who love her.
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy lord."
