The Obituary
Betty Lynn Johnson Degraffenreaidt was born to the Late Prince and Elizabeth Thompson Johnson on September 20,1948, in Lee County, NC.
Betty entered the workforce and was employed by Lee County Hospital, Carnell, Texfi, and retired from Tyson Foods after 21 years of service.
She was a member of Works for Christ Christian Center in Sanford, NC under Apostle Dr. Alice Hooker until her health declined and she was unable to attend. While active, she was a member of the Mother’s Board and Usher Board.
As a teenager and even into adulthood, Betty was always camera-ready and never shy to offer a sly smile for the photographer. She was a girlie girl at heart and loved lipstick, eyeshadow and chunky jewelry! Betty was a collector of ALL things, literally! She was an avid reader who took pride in her extensive book collection. She found joy in shopping and thrifting and was known to have whatever you needed; be it a scarf or pair of gloves. This hobby made her happy and she partook, without hesitation.
Betty was a resourceful individual who left very little to the imagination. If you knew Betty, you knew she was black or white…no gray areas with her. She loved much and laughed often. Her bright smile and fun-loving demeanor will be missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Fletcher McBride and Bobby Lee McBride Jr.; one brother, Clarence Johnson; sisters, Vera Quick and Pearl Ann Davis; two brothers-in-law, Eddie Davis and Milton Burch all of Sanford, NC; one granddaughter, Nartarsha Alston, and lifelong friend, Gloria “Tootsie” McLean both of Sanford, NC.
