Bernice (King) Marable

Mrs. Bernice (King) Marable, age 88 of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at her residence.

The Obituary

Bernice King Marable “Bern” was born on September 6, 1935, to the late John King and Mandy Bell King. After suffering some health issues, she departed this life on August 7, 2024.

Bernice Marable was born in South Boston, Virginia, where she attended school until she had to drop out to help her mother with the family.

Bernice and her family moved from Hillsborough, NC to Sanford, NC in the 1980s, where she met the love of her life, Robert Carnegie.

She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She didn’t mind serving the Lord and going to church until her health failed her.

Bernice enjoyed taking care of her family and other children who she came in contact with. She loved to go fishing, cooking, and listening to her gospel music.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Marable; siblings; one daughter, Janette King (Hazel); long-life companion of many years, Robert Carnegie; and a special friend that she cherished until the end, Queen Ester Green.

Bernice leaves to cherish her memories, four sons, Joseph Marable, James King, Alexander Marable, and MacArthur Marable; four daughters, Bernice P. Marable, Tammy McTillman (James), Pearline J. King Gill, and Marie Robinson; one that she raised as a son, Lonnie McDougal; twenty-five grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; thirty-six great-great grandchildren; many more grandchildren and great grandchildren that she raised; and a host of nieces and nephews.
