Bernice, age 76, of North Carolina passed peacefully from this life on December 20, 2019, at her daughter’s residence. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family as she went to her everlasting home.
Bernice was born on September 11, 1943, to the late Mr. Bill Smith and the late Ms. Grace P. Lindsey-Isley in Liberty, North Carolina and her late grandmother, Callie Coltrane.
She was educated in the public school in Randolph County, and she later attended North Carolina AT&T University in North Carolina.
Bernice accepted Christ at an early age at Edward Grove Baptist Church of Liberty, North Carolina. She later joined Union Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of Isis.
She was a Past Matron of Drucilla Chapter #19 Prince Hall Order of Eastern Star, Southern Pines, NC, a member of Zafa Court #41 Daughters of Isis Apex, NC and a member of University Assembly #218 Order of the Golden Circle Durham, NC (PHA).
She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Edward Lucas Jr. and John Blue.
She leaves to cherish her memories four children: Phyllis Lucas, Tonya (Steven) Echols of Fayetteville, NC, Patrick Lucas of Robbins, NC, and Anthony Lucas of Manassas, VA; seven grandchildren: Tracy (Jacob) Williams, Cierra, Anton, Maranda, Jabari, Samantha and Jackson; three great-grandchildren: Ava, Eden and Elias; sister in law, Sharon Barton; brother in law, Henry Lucas (Barbara) and a host of relatives and friends.
