The Obituary

Mrs. Bernice Queen Cole was born on January 9, 1941, to the late Preston James and Isabel Queen Walker McDougald. She entered eternal rest on November 17, 2024, at home.

Mama was educated in the Harnett School System. She enjoyed sewing by hand, crocheting, ceramics, word search puzzles, bowling and drawing. Most important, Mama enjoyed reading and studying the Bible.

Mama was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Cole Sr; sons, Micheal Anthony and Jerry Cole and daughter, Lena May Cole; her parents, Preston James and Isabel Queen Walker McDougald; sisters, Ruthilene McDougald, Mary Frances Laster and Betty Belton; brothers, Herman Johnson Jr., Charles, Randolph, Preston, Floyd, Isaac, Leroy, Elbert, Frank, William Henry and Jeremiah McDougald.

Those left to cherish Mama’s memory are daughters, Shirley Tucker, Annabel McDougald and Angela Cole all of Sanford NC; sons, Leon McDougald and Marvin Cole of Sanford NC; Freeman Bethea of Connecticut; Freeman Cole Jr. (Joyce) of Raleigh NC; sisters, Patricia McCrae of Elizabethtown NC; Rosa (Walter) of Cameron NC and Mildred (Charles) of Maryland; sisters-in-law, Pat Newby (Robert) and Connie Jacobs of Sanford NC and Edith Cole of Florida and brother-in-law, James Belton of Olivia and special friends to the family Mrs. Kim Garner (Wayne) and Walter James Davis Jr.

Also left to cherish her memories are twenty-one grandchildren; forty-five great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
