Barbara Brim Obituary

Mrs. Barbara Ann Brim, age 72 of Raleigh, North Carolina entered into eternal rest Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at WakeMed Hospital, Raleigh, NC.

Life’s Reflection of Barbara Brim

Barbara Ann was born March 18, 1949, to the late David and Ruby Alston. She was the oldest of seven girls. She attended Evans Chapel as a young girl, was educated in the Chatham County school system, and later attended Rutledge Junior College majoring in computers. Barbara was married to Calvin Earl Brim on August 13, 1968. Calvin and Barbara raised two children Leslie and the late Calvin Jr.

After marriage, she joined Alston Chapel Church where she worked in many auxiliaries. Her love for the disciples of the Western NC district of the United Holy Church of America Inc. and pastors, Elder Carrie Bolton and Elder Jerry W. Powell spoke volumes as she was a dedicated servant on the Pastor’s Care, and baking cakes for special occasions but her greatest love was on the Ushers Ministry. She enjoyed traveling to other Usher Anniversaries, serving on the Sanford-Sub District and at Headquarters in Greensboro while serving as the Vice and President of the Ushers Board at home. Her greatest honor has been to serve as “Mother of the Church”. Mother Brim could be found traveling to church anniversaries, following the Pastor in support of away events, and visiting the sick and shut-in as a true missionary. She especially enjoyed visiting her friend Mozelle Goldston after church on Sunday while eating and sleeping before her ride back home to Raleigh.

She found joy in visiting her family if not by in-person, then by phone or a friendly card in the mail. Barbara helped on the planning committee of the Marsh Family Reunion, family gatherings, and quickly adopted the title of being the mother-figure of the entire Alston Family especially to her niece Jackie. She was a great supporter of her husband’s family (The Brim’s) in helping to keep the family in touch as a whole.

Throughout her life, Barbara touched the lives of her co-workers Ms. Florine and neighbors, Ms. Agnes, Ms. Shirley, Ms. Donna, and many others, in being a great friend.

She has been greeted in heaven by her three sisters Nancy Lee Alston, Brenda Alston, Cathy Lee, and her son Calvin Jr. Barbara leave to cherish her memories; husband Calvin Sr., daughter Leslie, and granddaughter Faith, three sisters; Alyease Fox (June) of Siler City; Janice Alston of Pittsboro, and Daisy Scotton (George) of Siler City, an uncle that she adored Otis Alston (Panava) of Callicoon, New York; cousin Jean Alston (who were raised together); long life friend Rhonda Mitchell,  and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
