Ms. Annie M. Dowdy, age 83 of Ramseur, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
Mrs. Annie Mae "Martin" Dowdy entered this world on October 5, 1939, in Sanford, NC.
She was born to her parents, the late Stella Hines Martin, and William Taft Martin.
In Heaven, she is joining her beloved husband, Mr. James Donnell Dowdy, the youngest son, Mr. James Dion Dowdy, two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Martin Roberts, and Mrs. Helen Petion: brother, William Martin, and one grandchild, Kaprisha Dowdy.
She began her education at W.B. Wicker School in Sanford, NC. She completed high school at J.S. Waters High School in Goldston, NC. After graduation, she attended UNC-Chapel Hill to become certified as a special education teacher. After her student teaching career, she became certified as a Dietary Manager working at various nursing homes and hospitals for over 30 years.
After marrying her beloved Mr. James Donnell Dowdy, she became a member of Union Grove AME Zion Church in Bear Creek, NC. Along with her husband, she served as a class leader and the two of them spent years managing the kitchen committee and catering for the church. They were also owners of the Dowdy Catering Company. Mrs. Annie Dowdy was also active in various roles in the missionary department, Deaconess Board, Girl Scouts, and Sunday School teacher. She was a caring person and an amazing cook who showed her love to family and friends with her many special recipes.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: son, Jeffery Donnell Dowdy (Angela) of Sanford, NC; daughter, Tanni Martin; grandchildren, Jarod and Jamal Dowdy of Oxford, CA, and Bianca Bell of Brooklyn, NY, Termi, Jay, and Brianna Dowdy all of Greensboro, NC; four great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Paula Dowdy of Greensboro, NC; loving nieces and nephews who cared for her deeply to include a special nephew, Joe Morgan (Judy) and a special niece, Mrs. Anne Dowdy Herron (David) and her family; aunt, Loree Jean Marie and family of Hempstead, NY and many special cousins who she cherished, Azalee Little and her family in Maryland, Joan Clark (Milton) and her family in Carthage TN, brother-in-law, John R. Roberts of Sanford, NC and his family; Isaac Connors of Goose Creek, SC, who has been a part of what is left of the family since 1984, he has been a brother and a pillar of strength for mommy and daddy; her church family at Union Grove AME Zion Church and many caring friends Kelly McMurry and David McMurry of Ramseur, NC, Alice Craven of Siler City, NC and Cori Carthens of Asheboro, NC.
Special thanks to my navy family. Every time mommy asked those guys for their support, they always came through.
