Annie Elizabeth Dowdy

Annie Dowdy, age 78 of 2005 Hope St. Sanford, NC passed on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at UNC Hospitals.

ANNIE ELIZABETH RICHARDSON DOWDY, the daughter of the late Sam and Annie Jane Handy Richardson, was born July 25, 1940 in Robeson County, NC. She was affectionately called “Lib” by her family and friends. Her departure from this world was on Sunday morning, April 14, 2019 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill NC after an extended illness.

“Lib” attended and graduated from Shawtown High School, Lillington NC. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant and was employed in various nursing facilities. She had a heart of taking care of people. She was known throughout the Carr Creek Community as everyone’s “Granny.” Family and friends were her pride and joy. Her favorite pastime was playing Bingo.

“Lib” was a disciple of Cameron Grove AME Zion Church, Broadway, NC. She was a member of the Faithful Stars Choir. She later became the choir secretary. She willingly supported other ministries of the church, until her health declined.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Annie Richardson; her brother, John “Jay” Richardson; her son, Sammy Richardson and her niece, Overa Martin.

The precious, loving memories of “Lib” will be remembered in the hearts and souls of her supportive companion and friend: James Dalrymple of the home; her two children: Sandra Faye Wise and Earl Richardson, Jr. (Sheronda) of Sanford NC; her nine grandchildren: Jasmine D. Jackson (Johntavion), Alyia J. Williams, Brandon Richardson, Justin Richardson, Deshaun Upchurch, Dazarae Perry (Donta), Dominique Richardson (Danyale), Corey Richardson, Diamond Richardson and MarKeshia Person; her eight great-grandchildren, including two special great-grandchildren, Jatavia Jackson and Justice Forte-Paduan; her two sisters: Glendora Richardson and Sarah Foxx (James) of Broadway NC; her brother: Earl Richardson, Sr. (Elizabeth) of Broadway NC; her two aunts, Augusta Goodyear of Red Springs NC and Carrie Mae Leatherwood of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
