Mr. Alfonzo Emerson, age 77, of Sanford, NC, entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 01, 2024, at his residence.

Alfonzo Emerson, affectionately known as “Al” departed his life Sunday, December 1, 2024. He was born to the late Raymond Howard Emerson and Nannie Crutchfield Emerson in Chatham County.
Al was a beloved husband, father, and community pillar. He was married to Shirley Mauldin Emerson, for over fifty wonderful years. Their marriage was a shining example of commitment and partnership, rooted in love, respect, and shared values. Shirley was not only his partner but also his confidante and best friend, always by his side throughout life’s journey.
Alfonzo joined Mitchell Chapel Church at an early age and was actively involved in serving as Chairperson of the Trustee Board, Treasurer, and President of the Usher Board. He was sworn into the United States Air Force on the day of his high school graduation from Chatham High School, spending the next 6 years serving our country with dedication. His service not only exemplified the values of honor and sacrifice but also inspired those around him. After returning from service, he started his career at Weyerhaeuser in Moncure, NC where he devoted over twenty years to making sure his employees proved their best selves every day. After leaving Weyerhaeuser, Al continued to expand his career as a Senior Buyer, with EMC and Data General before retiring to focus more on his family.
Several organizations held special significance for Al because of his steadfast dedication to community service. Notably, he was an active member of Saint Paul Lodge #147, G. Wesley Allen Consistory #42, Khalif Temple #144, The Sanford Shrine Club, West Chatham NAACP and The American Legion Post #283. Each group benefited from his dedication, leadership, and compassionate nature. Al’s involvement in these organizations highlighted his commitment to giving back and enhancing the lives of those around him.
To know Al was to experience the warmth of a devoted man who found immense joy in his church, family, friends, and community. His lively spirit, sense of humor, and generous heart inspired those fortunate to meet him. His memory leaves an indelible mark on those who cherish his teachings and love. Alfonzo Emerson will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. His legacy remains in the hearts and minds of family and friends, reminding everyone of the power of love, dedication, and kindness.
Alfonzo Emerson was preceded in death by his son, Stephen A. Emerson; mother, Nannie Crutchfield Emerson, and father, Raymond “Sunnyboy” Emerson.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Shirley; daughter, Amitty; grandchildren, Emerson Harris and Zen Lewis; one godson, Brian Brooks; sisters, Peggy Hagans (wife of the late Robert F. Hagans II), Laura Emerson, and Janice Emerson; brothers, Howard Emerson (Jackie) and Hermon Emerson (Kay). He also leaves behind to mourn his death, sisters-in-law Joan Cheek (Winfred), Cynthia Brooks (Larry), Sandra Mauldin, Felicia Mauldin and Hattie Marsh; brothers-in-law, Tim Mauldin (Sherry), and Howard Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
