The Obituary
Albert Louis Hooker, age 78, of Sanford, N.C., went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C.
Albert, affectionately known as Louis, was born on January 19th, 1947, to the late Albert Louis Hooker and Evelyn Owens Hooker. From a young age, he was known for his quiet strength, sense of humor, and deep love for those around him.
He was a dedicated and hardworking man who took pride in doing his part to care for his family. Over the years, Albert worked at Perdue Farms Inc. for seventeen years, at the local brickyard for five years, and at Food Lion for three years before his health began to decline. Regardless of the job, he was dependable and steady, showing up every day with determination and grace.
As a devoted member of Tempting Congregational Church, Louis faithfully served on the Usher Board, Trustee Board, Tempting Male Chorus, and Program Committee. He was also a proud
member of The Tempting Travelers and The Gospel Messengers, where he used his rich tenor voice to lift the spirits of others and praise the Lord through song. He was known for his generous spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.
Louis was the kind of man who would give without being asked and help without seeking recognition. Whether he was helping around the church or making jokes to brighten someone’s day, he always showed up for people. His laughter, wisdom, and presence brought comfort to many, and his legacy will continue to live on through the lives he touched.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Evelyn Hooker and two brothers, Robert E. Hooker and Larry Q. Hooker.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Mary R. Hooker of Sanford NC; two children, Tameka Hooker of Smithfield, NC and Albert Louis Hooker Jr. (Sheree) of Lillington, NC; four grandchildren, Katilyn Evans, Kanani Evans, Kyreke Evans, and Amiyah Hooker; two great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Raeford and Tremaine Raeford Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
