Adam Austin Obituary

Mr. Adam "A.D." Austin, age 86 of Pittsboro, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday, September 10, 2020, at his residence.

Adam David Austin was called to heaven by the Lord just before sunrise Thursday, September 10th , 2020. He passed peacefully at his home.

Adam David was born in Sunflower County, Mississippi on February 18th , 1934 to the late Erise Byrd and Rosa Lee Austin. His family relocated to Pittsboro, North Carolina in April of 1944. There they founded the First Missionary Baptist Church of Pittsboro where he played an active role from a very young age. He held many positions within the church including serving as an Usher, Chairman, Superintendent, choir member, and as a Deacon for over 63 years. He also worked on the Finance Committee of Deep River Missionary Baptist Association/Deep River Union and made many friends there. In
addition to his church affiliation he was a devoted and dedicated member of Saint Paul Masonic Lodge #147.

He attended school until the 10th grade at Horton High School in Pittsboro until their need for him to help care for the family. He worked in the poultry industry until his retirement.

Following retirement, he was able to enjoy more time with family and friends and focus more on his hobbies such as hunting, fishing, gardening and UNC sports. He continued to be a caring member of the Pittsboro community by helping others with errands and visiting the sick and shut-in. Bringing them food, candy and prayer gave him great joy.  He always took care of others before even himself. He enjoyed handing out candy and snacks to everyone he met, becoming well known as “The Candyman”.

In 1957 he married Marjorie Fike who blessed him with four children. The eldest daughter, Elizabeth, preceded him in death. He is survived by his sons Earl (Ruth Ann) and Edward (Susan) Austin and daughter Stephanie Tucci (Chris). In 1986 his beloved wife Marjorie was also called up to heaven to help Jesus prepare his final resting place.

His siblings who have survived him and grieve with us are his sisters Minnie Ingram of Southern Pines and Josephine Powell (Gregory) of Pittsfield, MA; his brothers Laburn “LB” Austin of Rochester, NY; and Arthur Lee Austin also of Pittsfield. His sister Emma Richardson and brother James Lee Austin are predeceased.

Also mourning his loss are his six grandchildren: Nicole, Johnathon, Yolanda, Nicholas, Matthew and Joseph Austin. His greatly missed grandson, Sherman, has also preceded him to heaven.  Adam David Austin adored and dearly loved all of his ten great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-great grandchildren. Joining them in their grief are a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as a large community of friends.
