Ada Peoples Obituary

Ada was born on May 18th, 1935 to the late John Alton Tyson and Pearl Mossie Hart.

She was raised in Chatham County, North Carolina until the age of 6, when she moved to Freeport, New York and grew up on Long Island. She attended Freeport Church of God, in Freeport, NY where she began her love of ushering under the late Velma Deas.

She began her formal education at Cleveland Avenue Elementary School and graduated from Freeport High School in 1953. Upon high school graduation, she enrolled at the Lincoln School of Nursing in Harlem, New York. After graduating nursing school, she worked as a nurse at Brunswick Hospital in Amityville, NY.

She soon married Julius Colter and had 2 sons, Julius Jr. and Gerald (Jerry). Her nursing career took her to Meadowbrook Hospital in East Meadow. She soon found her true calling as a nurse administrator with Grumman Aerospace Corporation, rising up to becoming Supervisor of Nurses, responsible for the care of over 36,000 employees across the United States and the world. She returned to school and got a BS Degree from St. Joseph College in Maine. After almost 29 years with Grumman, Ada retired briefly. After a short stint working as a nurse in NYC for the NBC Television Network at Rockefeller Center, she decided to permanently retire and return to North Carolina in 1994.

She met and married the late Johnnie Peoples and enjoyed retirement in Bear Creek, NC. She loved making jams. Jellies, her beloved 7-Up cake, and banana bread. Church was a big part of her life and served with distinction as Trustee Emeritus with the Pittsboro Church of God. She loved being an Usher and serving her church. She looked forward to attending the Usher Board Annual Convention around the country.

Like her Mother, her beloved Mrs. Pearl Ross, she adopted many family members. What a Blessing, that has been - 2 sons, Julius Colter Jr. of Mint Hill, NC, Gerald Tyson Colter of Lakeside, CA, 1 granddaughter, Julia Tyson Colter of Charlotte, NC, 1 daughter-in-law, Monique Colter of Charlotte, NC, 1 special daughter, Cora Jean Brower and 1 sister, Gladys Vailes and her family in Freeport, NY. Also, the family she shared with Mr. P, the love of her mature years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pittsboro Church of God.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
