Woodrow Wilson Chesney

Woodrow “Woody” Wilson Chesney, 78, of Sanford, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Cape Fear Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Woody was born on September 2, 1940 in Sanford, North Carolina to the late George Eugene and Mattie Harrington Chesney. He attended public schools in Sanford and was a graduate of W.B. Wicker High School.

A loving father and grandfather, Woody enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing horseshoes. Woody considered his family his greatest treasure. He was absolutely devoted to the welfare and comfort of his wife and children. He worked long hard hours to ensure his family was safe and comfortable. He believed that a man has an obligation to provide for his loved ones. His deeds certainly reflected his beliefs.

Woody is preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Chesney; sons, Michael Chesney and Adam (Vicki) Chesney; sisters, Jessie Chesney Snipes, Irene Chesney and Martha Chesney; and brothers, Eugene Chesney and Archie Chesney.

Cherishing precious memories are his children: Debra Chesney of Sanford, NC, Calvin Chesney (Janet) of Fayetteville, Orenthia Chesney (LaVelle) of Sanford, Tammaria Gregory (Odwin) of Lilburn, GA;   Wallace Newby, Lester Newby (Wendy) and Vince (Nyisha) Newby of Bridgeport, CT; brothers, Clarence Chesney of Bridgeport, CT, Elmer Chesney and Wayne Chesney of Sanford, NC; sisters, Catherine Smith of Danbury, CT and Janet Chesney of Fayetteville, NC. Surviving are host of grandchildren, great grandchildren. nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
