Vickie Belinda ("Dorsett") Gainey

Vickie Belinda Dorsett Gainey, age 61 of 116 Marina Rd., Sanford, NC passed on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at her residence.

Vickie Dorsett Gainey was born July 11, 1958 to Everette Dorsett Sr. and Lida Chesney Dorsett. She transitioned from Earth to Eternity on August 31, 2019 surrounded by her family.

She graduated from Sanford Central High School in 1976. Immediately after high school she started working at Spanco Yarn where she worked for 18 years. She then started working at Coty Inc. where she worked for 30 years. She married Ira "Ronnie Mo" Gainey Jr. in 1981.

Vickie was quiet and shy, but very outspoken when needed. She loved to cook at home for her family and at church. She was known for her delicious cabbage, chicken salad and spaghetti. Vickie joined Works for Christ Christian Center and served faithfully under the leadership of Drs. Lewis and Alice Hooker. She loved her “Queen A”, Dr. Alice Hooker whom she made herself available to cook anytime her pastor needed her. Vickie believed in the Lord and loved Him with all her heart. She was never ashamed to give Him praise. Even in her last days singing, clapping, waving her hands; giving God the Praise was a part of her daily devotion. So much so until hours before her passing her last words were: “Everything Is OK”!!

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lida Chesney Dorsett; two brothers, Everett “Eb” Dorsett Jr. and Michael Dorsett; two sisters, Barbara Covington and Peggy Murchison; two nephews, Derrick Spruiell and Michael “Buzz” Dorsett; and niece, Tanisha “Bessie” Murchison.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her sons, Adrian “Shawn” Dorsett and Larry Dorsett Sr. (Toya); father, Everett Dorsett Sr.; sisters, Phyllis  Dorsett, Marcia Neal (Ronald) and Gwendolyn “Faye” Dorsett; one brother, David Dorsett (Darlene); seventeen grandchildren, Kentaris (raised as her son), Tierra, Donte, Tyesia, Tatyanna, Keosha, Rory, Zaria, Shaugnesty, Xavian,  Adrian Jr., Cyndiana, Xian, Ariana, Aaydan, Aaliyah and Larry Jr; two great grandchildren, Michaela and Kweli; aunts: Carolyn Snipes, Geraldine Jones, and Viola Barrett; uncles, George Chesney, (Jackie), James Rader and William Gray; special niece, Janel Dorsett (raised as her sister); special cousin, Kimberly Jones; special friend, “more like a sister,” Lisa McLeod (Charles); her “Ma Cathy”, Pastor Cathy Ray; special friends, Brenda Cameron and Barbara Kelly and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
