Mr. Samuel Milliken, Jr. age 80 of 556 Milliken Rd., Pittsboro, NC passed on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill, NC.
Samuel Milliken Jr. was born on December 15, 1938 in Pittsboro, North Carolina; the older of seven children born to the late Maggie Brooks Milliken and Samuel Milliken Sr. He departed this life on September 7, 2019.
Samuel grew up in Pittsboro, North Carolina and became a member of Mitchell Chapel Church. He was a faithful member and Trustee until his health began declining. He was a long time Mason of the St. Mark community Lodge #829 for over 30 years. He was a faithful member of the St. Thomas Order of the Eastern Star#644 and G. Wesley Allen Consistory #42. He also was a Shriner, Worthy Patron, Worshipful Master and was a 33 Degree Mason. He was dedicated and loyal to his Masonic duties and served faithfully.
He attended Horton High School and Graduated in 1957. He was an avid learner and enjoyed History and Politics. After high school he began his working career for William Friday at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as his personal driver. Later, he began working in textile where he worked for Allied Signal/Fibers/Honeywell in the warehouse until he retired in 2001. He was a dependable and hard worker.
Sam Jr. was a quiet and family oriented man. He loved good southern cooking, reading and traveling. He enjoyed traditional yearly events such as Christmas and family cookouts. He went to the Raleigh State Fair every year. He also enjoyed visiting family and friends.
He was preceded in death by this parents, and sisters, Ms. Magdalene Brooks Milliken Henson and Vernon Nelson Milliken.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 60 years, Margie Siler Milliken; four daughters, Chestine Smith (Charles) of Fort Worth, Texas, Margie Marie of Burlington, North Carolina, Twyla Peoples (Sterling) of Pittsboro, North Carolina, and Samelia McIver (Pilgrim); siblings, Wade Milliken (Mary), Barbara Milliken, Lucy Milliken Smith, and Ralph Milliken; brother-in-law, Jazz Siler and Herman Siler of Siler City, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Mary Lois Eubanks (Roy) of Siler City, North Carolina; and a host of grandchildren, great grand-children, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Twyla Peoples at 215 Milliken Rd. Pittsboro, NC.
