Robert Lee Cotten, Sr. was born August 11, 1946 in Chatham County to the late Clarence Cotten and Betty Lou Hancock. He departed this life on Monday July 9, 2018 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC.
Robert graduated from Dubois High School in Wake Forest, NC. He later pursued a career in truck driving, where he drove trucks for over 30 years until he drove into his sunset.
He was a caring person, and he loved his family. He was always there to help relatives, friends, and anyone who needed a helping hand. Robert was the type of person, who would do anything he could to help support those less fortunate and in need. He was a mentor to other young men, who desired a career in the trucking profession. His passion for trucks, cars, and wrestling kept him busy and entertained during his downtime. Robert was known for his stylish, well-groomed, appearance at all times. He was a snazzy dresser, a trendsetter, and best known for wearing his “Kangol.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Cotten; mother, Betty Lou Hancock; son, Rodney Keith Cotten, Sr.; brothers, John Cotten, and Allen Hancock; sisters, Dorothy Cotten, Hattie Lucas, and Lillian Steele; brother-in-law, Jerome Lucas, and sister-in-law, Judith Hancock.
He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Elease Cotten; his children, Robert Lee Cotten, Jr. (Cindy), of Cary, NC., Delton Lee Cotten (Denise) of Charlotte, NC, and Robin Renae Cotten of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Alene Hancock and Jan Patterson of Sanford NC, Nannie Marsh of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and Denise Satterfield of Jacksonville, Fl.; brothers, Clarence Wilkerson (Peggy) of Wake Forest, NC, John Hancock and Dennis Hancock of Sanford, NC; a special aunt, Nina Perry (Joshua) of Wake Forest, NC; twelve grandchildren; five great- grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
