Peggy Jean Pulley Brinkley, age 82 of 1913 Carr Creek Dr., Sanford, NC passed on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Central Carolina Hospital.
Vadrene Peggy Jean Pulley Brinkley the daughter of the late Robert Wade Pulley and Iona Annice McDougald Pulley Gaines was born on June 21, 1936 in Harnett County, North Carolina. Peggy departed this life on Thursday January 17, 2019 in the late evening at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, North Carolina at the age of 82.
Peggy started school at Ridgeway and graduated at Johnsonville High School in Harnett County, North Carolina. Peggy joined the church at an early age at Christ Disciple Church, she spent many years serving at Union Grove UMC until she settled at McQueen Chapel UMC of Lemon Springs North Carolina, where she served as Intercessor and Lay Speaker and participated wherever needed. Peggy faithfully attended services at McQueen until her health declined.
Peggy worked at several places in Sanford before she chose a career in janitorial services as House Keeping Supervisor with Convalescent Center of Sanford currently Sanford Health and Rehabilitation for over 20 years. Peggy was also a Certified CNA and cared for many people in both positions during her employment and after.
Peggy was married to the late Norman Sinclair Brinkley who was in the United States Air Force which required them to travel extensively throughout the world until they made their home in North Carolina. Peggy loved her life as a military wife and from their union two sons were born, Reginald S. Brinkley and Terry E. Brinkley.
Peggy believed in helping others in need in any way she could and she would feed anyone who came to her table. In her younger days she spent her leisure time on the banks of a river, at a pond or on the pier at the beach with a fishing pole.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and husband and her son, Terry E. Brinkley; her brothers, Neil A. Pulley and Johnny L. Pulley, and beloved stepfather, William E. Gaines.
Peggy leaves to cherish her memories one son, Reginald S. Brinkley of New Jersey; one daughter, Victoria Brinkley of Sanford; one stepson, Rev. Chalmers McDougald of Fayetteville; four sisters, Francis C. Pulley of the home, Lola A. Wilson (Elmer) of Sanford, Sandra K. Greene (Kortwright) of Charlottesville, Va., and Lythajane Pearson of New Jersey; one brother, Robert H. Pulley (Annie) of Sanford. She leaves one daughter of the heart, Debra L. McDougal (Cleophus); two sons of the heart, Clinton Outin and Rev. Larry Robinson. She also leaves five grandchildren, Marcus D. Brinkley, Norman S. Brinkley (April), Rashad M. Brinkley all of Sanford, Derion G. Swann of Charlotte, and Joshua E. Brinkley of Sanford, eight great grandchildren, a special cousin and friend, Flora Blue, and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends who will truly miss her.
