Mekhia Genese Gilchrist

Mekhia Genese Gilchrist, age 13, of 24639 Hwy 24/27 Cameron, NC passed on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care, West End, NC.

Mekhia Genese Gilchrist, received her wings at 12:15 pm on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, after a lengthy battle with a rare cancer, (Sarcoma). God sent angels to her bedside at First Health Hospice, West End, NC to accompany this earthly jewel to her Heavenly Home.

“Khia” as she was fondly called, was born June 4, 2004 at Lee County Hospital, Sanford, NC. She was the youngest child of  Artis and Genia Gilchrist.

Mekhia was christened as a baby at St. John Church, as a symbol of her new birth in Christ. She grew into a beautiful believer in the Lord. She was a scholar in the Intermediate Sunday School Class, a Junior Usher, a member of the YPHM and Youth Choir.

She was an eighth grader at Highland Middle School, where she received numerous awards and recognitions. Mekhia was in the 2016 Miss Highland Middle School Pageant and won 3rd place. She loved to read! Barnes & Nobles was her favorite bookstore. Everyone at her school and also the nurses that attended to her at UNC Hospitals loved her. Mekhia loved going to the beach.  She will truly be missed by her family and friends!

She leaves to cherish her life, her loving and devoted parents, Artis and Genia Gilchrist; two sisters, Ty’Ana Barbee (Andrew), Ft. Stewart, GA, Sherrika Pearson, Sanford, NC; one brother, Brian Yarborough, Raleigh, NC; maternal grandmothers, Lourine Gilchrist, Cameron, NC, Pat McDougald, Broadway, NC; paternal grandfathers, the late James Artis Gilchrist and the late Paul Sylvester Yarborough; Four aunts, Shelia McNeill, Wanda Kendrick, Arndra Smith, Minister Sinethra Gilchrist; three nieces, especially little Lauryn whom loved and adored; four nephews; a very special cousin, Kiara McNeill, and a very special best friend, Aaniyah Seymour, and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
