Mattie Mae Harrington

Mattie Harrington, age 85 of 176 Mye Lane, Cameron NC passed on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Ms. Mattie Mae Harrington was born on February 23, 1933 to Fred Harrington & Rosa Belle Norwood Harrington in Harnett County.  She transitioned from this life to eternal life on Sunday January 20, 2019 at Liberty Commons, Sanford NC.

Mattie was a 1951 graduate of Johnsonville High School.  Mattie was brought up under the leadership of Rev. CH Ratcliff, pastor of Church of God in Christ Without Blemish, Lillington, NC.  She spent several years working in New York and New Jersey before returning to North Carolina. She was employed for Cornell Dubiller for the remainder of her work career.

Mattie was an active member of Community Development Association and the Harnett County ECA.  Her contributions to the community, family and friends were greatly.

Mattie had an undeniable love for her grands, great-grands and great-great grand.  Always encouraging them to study hard to achieve their goals and not have to struggle.  “Stay in them books and study hard now” was her motto.  She would also tell them, “Keep a nice haircut and your pants pulled up with a belt on.”  Although she fussed a lot, it was always a message behind every word.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Rosa Belle Harrington; siblings, Lucille, James, Lee A, Frances, and Wilma; and her grandson, Monte Clay.

She leaves to cherish her memories:  daughters, Valjean Amerson (Quinton), Amelia Cotten, and Jacqueline Cain;  sister, Margaret Speed; special nephew, Haywood Harrington;  grandchildren,  Sabrina Vereen (William), Quincy Amerson, Kevin Clay (Pandora), Terrell Clay, Dajuana Amerson, Kiyuanta Harrington, Kedric Harrington (Clarissa), Kermeriaz Harrington, and Moniqua Coes (Sharod);  twenty four great-grands; one great-great grand, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
