Mrs. Mary Alice Farrar, age 85 of 971 Hillsboro St., Pittsboro, NC passed on Monday, January 13, 2020 at UNC Hospice Home, Pittsboro, NC.
Mary Alice Queen Elizabeth Patterson Farrar was born on September 1, 1934 to the late Sandy West & Luna Craig Patterson in Chatham County, North Carolina. She departed this life peacefully on January 13, 2020 at the SECU Jim & Betsy Bryant Hospice Home of UNC Healthcare in Pittsboro, NC. Mary Alice was educated in the Chatham County School System and graduated from Horton High School in 1955. At an early age, she joined and was active in Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
On April 6, 1957, she married Frank Farrar and moved to Pittsboro. During this time, she became a member of Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church. She was extremely active in the Mitchell Chapel Missionary Society and served as President for many years. Mary Alice furthered her education by attending beauty school in Durham, NC. She was an accomplished beautician, doing hair for over 60 years and was the proud owner of Mary’s
Beauty Shop. She loved God, her family and was passionate about giving to others until the end. One thing about her is that she believed that things should be done “decent and in order.”
Mary Alice leaves to cherish her husband of 62 years, Frank Farrar of the home, two daughters: Alice Jean Lloyd and Connie Ann (William Charles) Austin. Six grandchildren: Andre (Shoshi), Montrell (Lynn), Jacqueline (Dynell), Antonio, Jason, Darius. Five great-grandchildren: Devontre’, Dreshon, Braylon, Jessiah and Jyshir. Two siblings: Ella Horton and John Seaton (Esther) Patterson. Several in-laws: Carlene Farrar, Mary Lillie Jones, Walter (Mary Henrietta) Farrar, Julius Farrar, Faye Leach, Charlie (Lydia) Farrar, Katie Farrar and Jimmy (Euphalia) Farrar all of Pittsboro. Adopted-son: Roy (Ronel) Bryant and three godchildren: Margaret Clark, Crystal Burris and Felicia Clark. She also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews and
cousins.
