Lena Belle (Ellba) Swann

Ms. Lena Belle Swann, age 80 of 2967 McNeill Rd., Sanford, North Carolina passed on Monday, October 22, 2018 at her residence.

Lena, as we fondly called her, was born in Harnett County, North Carolina on July 12, 1938 to the late Willie Ellba and Carrie McLean Ellba.  Lena entered into eternal rest on October 22, 2018 at her home.  Lena was one of six children born to Willie and Carrie Ellba with three children, Josie Mildred, Love Maria and Reggie, having predeceased Lena.   Lena was educated at Shawtown High School in Lillington, North Carolina and married her high school sweetheart, the late Wilbert Swann.  Upon her marriage, Lena became a homemaker for her husband and the two children born to their union.

At an early age, Lena became a member of Chapel Hill A.M.E. Zion Church and later joined Love Grove A.M.E. Zion Church where she was consecrated as a Deaconess and served on the Stewardess Board. She was also a member of the Heavenly Voices and Mass Choir. 

Lena was employed by the Harnett County Public School System as a member of the staff at Johnsonville School.  Upon leaving the school system, she became employed by the Koury Company and Coty, Inc.  After serving Coty, Inc. for over twenty years, Lena retired from her position and became engaged in helping to raise her granddaughters.

Lena’s life will continue to bloom through her surviving family members: daughter, Geovonna King and son, Conrad Swann, both of the home and granddaughters, Marlena King and Makaya King of the home. Lena is also survived by one aunt, Betty Stackhouse of Sanford, NC, two sisters, Helen Hicks of Sanford, NC and Beulah Locklear (Billy) of Sanford, NC; three sisters-in-law, Alga Swann of Greensboro, NC, Delano Swann of Fayetteville, NC and Markenzie Swann of Sanford, NC as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends who will forever cherish memories of Lena Belle Ellba Swann.
