Joshua McKendall, age 29 of 805 W. Garden St., Sanford, NC passed on Wednesday, December 25, 2019.
Joshua Antonio McKendall better known as “Josh”, “Wonder Boy” or “Dunkin” slipped away from us in a peaceful slumber on December 25, 2019 at his residence.
Josh was born May 7, 1990 to Bonita M. McKendall and Jonathan E. Matthews.
Josh received his education through the Lee County Public School System, but graduated with his diploma from Provisions Academy Charter School, Sanford, NC, Class of 2009.
Upon graduation from high school, Josh envisioned himself being a truck driver but decided to enter the workforce instead. Josh worked at various places such as Hardees in Sanford, Pilgrim Pride Corporation, Perdue Farms in Rockingham and Bojangles in Sanford.
Josh was raised in church. Joshua joined the Potter's House church in 1999 and was a faithful member for 20 years. He sang in the choir and played the drums. Josh was well-known and a friend to all. Josh had the biggest heart and loved to help others. He would often help his uncle and grandmother in their yards. He loved to tell jokes and make others laugh. He liked to have fun and enjoy life. Josh loved playing video games, playing basketball and playing with his nephew, Liam. Their favorite pastime was riding bikes together.
Josh was preceded in death by his paternal grandfathers, Thomas Lee McKendall and Trustee George T. Covington and maternal grandparents, James and Mary Matthews; uncles, Earl, Donald and Terrell Matthews.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Bonita McKendall, Sanford NC; his father, Jonathan Matthews, Goldston NC; sister, Te-Nisha “Nikki” McKendall; brother, Jeremy “Quan” McKendall; sister, Kiara Jones; brother, Moses Matthews; nephew, Liam McKendall, whom he loved with all of his heart and treated like his own son, all of Sanford, NC; his devoted grandmother, Deaconess Helen J. Covington, Sanford, NC; uncles, Elder Thomas McKendall (Sabrina), James “DJ Boy Baby” McKendall, Sanford, NC, Therl Matthews, Goldston NC, Jerrold Matthews, Pittsboro, NC and Jamie Matthews, Siler City, NC; and aunts: Debra Raeford, Dr. Joyce Blue (Dr. Grant, a special uncle whom was like a father to him), Helen Crawford of Sanford, NC, and Laura Marsh (Sherrod), Pittsboro NC; a special friend, Latoya McLaurin, Laurinburg, NC and a host of family and friends.
