John Marion Cross

Mr. John Marion Cross, age 74 of 8160 92 Cross/Taylor Rd., Moncure, NC passed on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at WakeMed Cary Hospital, Cary, NC.

John Marion Cross was born on February 22, 1944 to the late John Archie and Mary Elizabeth Cross.  He departed his life on November 29, 2018 after a brief illness at WakeMed Hospital in Cary, NC.

He was educated in the Chatham County School System and graduated from Horton High School in 1962. John entered into the US Army  where he served for 2 years from 1966-1968 in the Korea Vietnam War.  John received the National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal (1st Award) and the Expert Badge (Rifle M-14) during his service.  After being honorably discharged he then went into the working field for Allied Chemical for 30 years as a Control Room Operator where he retired.

He met and was joined in Holy Matrimony for 53 years to Patsy E. Raines.  Through this blessed union three children were born, Antonio Lamont Cross, Timothy Martin Cross and Siobhan Annette Cross.

He accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful dedicated member at Mt. Sinai AME Church serving as head Deacon and as a Missionary.  Along with his many contributions to his community he also served as the First Vice President with the Chatham County NAACP Branch # 5377, Commander of the American Legion Post #0283 for 12 years and the Vice President of the Chatham Citizen against Coal Ash Dump.  He was also a dedicated Volunteer with the Democratic Party of Chatham County as well as with Chatham County Housing Authority. John also gave back to his fellow Veterans by assisting any Vets that were in need of their VA benefits and member of the DAV of NC.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Patsy Evon Cross along with his children: Tony, Tim and Siobhan Cross; eight granchildren: Demetruis Cross, Jemimah Shufford, Sadarius Cross, Mia Nygaard-Cross, Angel Shufford, Sequan Bradley, Bryce Cross and O'Shawn Sutton; one great granchild, Justice Cross; a god-daughter, Melanie Smith; four siblings: Wayne (LaVerne ), Archie (Jewell), Mary Milliken and Lora Ann (Harvey); brothers & sisters-in law: Marie Cross, Anthony Worrell, Michael Worrell (Goldie), Sharon (John) Hooker, Sammy (Julia), Wilma Black, Donald Ray, Barry,  Waverly, Margaret, Keith, Shebra Waddell and a host of other aunts, uncles relatives and friends.
