Henry Hayes Leach, Jr. of 1013 Hillsboro Street, Pittsboro, N.C. passed on Wednesday morning, January 2, 2019 at UNC Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill, N.C. surrounded by loved ones.
Henry was born on February 20, 1954 to the late Henry and Connie Leach. He was preceded in death by a brother, Connie Junior Leach.
Henry was baptized at Mt. Sinai AME Church and joined in his teen years taking that walk every Sunday from now South Small Street to the Church until he moved away from the area.
Henry started his education at Horton High School but finished at Northwood after integration of the schools. Henry enjoyed sports, especially football and baseball. He was recently inducted into the Northwood Sports Hall of Fame as a part of the 1971/72 Championship Football Team. He and his son bonded through their love of sports, especially softball. He played his last softball game with his son just a few months ago. Henry attended Livingston College in Salisbury, N.C. and joined Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Henry also enjoyed hunting and fishing from a very young age. He loved a good western movie and watched them from the time he got up until the time he went to bed.
Henry’s memories will live on in the hearts of his son, William Travis Leach, grandson, William Travis Leach, Jr. of High Point, N.C. and granddaughter, Alyssa Faye Leach of Welcome, N.C.; sisters, Georgia Southern (Joe) of Rowland, N.C.; Helen Ann Leach Dark (Ernest) of the home, and Hazel Leach Hadley (Henry) of Pittsboro, N.C.; nieces and nephews, Randy, Kia, Kamille, Monica, Thomas, Jason and many other relatives and friends. He remained a close friend to his son’s mother, Rhonda.
