Faydine Hankerson, age 65 of 1041 Greystone Circle, Sanford, NC passed on Monday, July 15, 2019 at her residence.
Faydine Scott Hankerson “Faye” daughter of the late Lewis Scott and the late Mary “Edell” Morrison Miller was born July 17, 1953 in Sanford, North Carolina.
Faye joined First Calvary Baptist Church in her early thirties and later joined New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the Usher Board, Missionary Board, and Inspirational Choir. She also was the Kitchen Committee chairperson, where she cooked and served delicious meals. She was very well-known for her broccoli corn bread, just one of her few specialties.
Faye went W.B. Wicker School until the integration of schools in the 70’s, then transferring to Lee County High School. Faye also attended Central Carolina Technical College, where she trained in electrical technologies.
Faye worked in Manufacturing for several decades, such as PCC Airfoils and MTS Sensors until she retired. While being retired, she kept children that considered her as their grandmother. Faye retired from keeping children to become employed as a substitute teacher for Lee County Schools. She subbed from elementary to high school, becoming a five-star permanent sub at Southern Lee High School. She was asked by teachers and Sandy Yarborough to sub in their classrooms for future dates. The children and faculty loved her, and she loved them. She considered herself and was thought of as a Cavalier.
Faye was a liaison for Simply Southern Catering. She would take calls, make menus, grocery shop and best of all help cook the food. She would leave her mark where ever she went. She could cook a roast that would melt in your mouth. She showed her love in a lot of ways, but mainly by cooking. She would cook food as a surprise and deliver it to people. She was a true definition of a cook and a servant. Faye always told her family, “We may not have much, but we can always feed someone.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gregory W. Hankerson.
On Monday, July 15, 2019 after a battle with lung cancer, Faye was called home to be with the Lord.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories her children; one son, Donnie Foushee; two daughters, Armintrus Downey (Herbert) and Rhonda Miller both of Sanford, NC; two step daughters, Laterice Kemp and Angela Key; six grandchildren, Tonielle Foushee, Brianna McBryde, Sydney Foushee, Dominique Jordan, Shayla Downey, and Isaiah Taylor; four great-grandchildren, Lexicana, Noah, Kaiden, Auyanna; five god-daughters, Sylvia Chatman, Cecilia Pearson, Jeanette Wilson, Dorothy Waterson, and Sherri Jones; two special cousins, Joan Thomas and Mary Alice Manning; special friends, Flora High, Shirley Campbell, Edith Lark, Sharon Monroe, Vanessa Y.
