Dwayne Belton Obituary

Dwayne Evans Belton, age 57 of 863 Black Rd., Cameron, NC passed on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Central Carolina Hospital.

Dwayne Evans Belton was born on April 29, 1961 in Jonesboro, North Carolina. He finished his earthly journey on March 18, 2019 at Central Carolina Hospital surrounded by family.

As the youngest son of the late Rev. Evans Belton and Mother Cassie Battle Belton, Dwayne’s tall, imposing stature was quite opposite of the quiet man he really was. By all means, Dwayne enjoyed life.  He liked to have a good time with the local crew in Jonesboro, hence he earned the nickname Jungle Cat back in the day. However, all who knew him knew that he was a strong provider for his beloved “Fireball” and children - leaving a void for many that will be hard to fill.  He was well loved throughout the Jonesboro community and will be missed.

Dwayne was a life-long member at Star of Hope Original Freewill Baptist Church, under the leadership of Bishop Wayne McKoy, Sr., and attended regularly.  After graduating from Lee Senior High School in 1979, he enrolled in Central Carolina Community College.

Dwayne was an avid reader who especially enjoyed comics and cartoons. He was artistically inclined and played the guitar for several church groups during his youth.  Dwayne was employed by GKN in Sanford, NC until his health declined.

“Wayne”, as he was known by many, leaves to celebrate his life: his devoted wife of 22 years, Martha “Fireball” Belton, of the home; one son, Dwayne Garrett McLeod (Passion); three stepsons whom he raised as his own: Michael and Maurice Purcell of Sanford, NC and Travis McNeill (Tia) of Durham, NC; his beloved grandchildren: DaSani, Armani, Dwayne Jr., Semiyra, Julian, Harper, Michael Jr., Amiyah, Aubrey, Maurice Jr., Joshua and Dylan; one sister: Barbara Johnson (Johnny); two brothers: James (Betty) and Joseph (Mary) all of Sanford; mother-in law: Ms. Lelia P. McMillian; four aunts: Rev. Lulu Battle of Sanford, NC, Roberta Floyd and Lula Mae Battle of Brooklyn, NY and Isabelle Chalmers of Baltimore, MD; a very special sister-cousin: Joyce Goins Pessoa of Brooklyn, NY and numerous nieces (namely Jovonda Johnson, who was his go to girl for anything he needed done) and nephews.
