Douglas Arthur Tanksley

Mr. Douglas Arthur Tanksley, age 72 of 320 Temple Ave. Sanford, NC passed on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford, NC. 

Douglas Arthur Tanksley was born in Collinsville, Mississippi on February 11, 1945 to the late Murray and Silva Tanksley. On Thursday November 30, 2017 the Lord quietly called Mr. Douglas Tanksley home to rest.

He was the third youngest of the twelve siblings. He ended his education early to go and work to support his family. He later moved to Philadelphia where he met his future wife Mary Tanksley of 48 years, they then had his one and only child Silva.

Mr. Tanksley was known for his hard work and dedication. He had a great passion for lottery tickets and strolling the streets of Sanford. He would often work in extreme weather, no matter the temperature until he was caught by one of his grandchildren and was told to go home and to call it a day. He loved to do what he wanted to do regardless of what anyone had to say. He also kept one of his granddaughters Lakeya up on her toes at all times, by giving her the run around while she worked hard and tried to make sure he had what he needed.

He leaves to cherish in his memories: His wife Mary Tanksley of Sanford North Carolina , Silva Johnson (Kerry Johnson) of SC his only daughter who preceded him in death. Three special grandchildren, Kerry Johnson (Lakeya) of Sanford NC, Maurice Johnson (Latoshia) of Fayetteville NC, Elicia Spears (Jason) of SC. Thirteen great-grand children and a host of nieces and nephews. His siblings Kola (Roosevelt) Cashwell of St. Louis MO, Murry (Eunice) Tanksley Jr. of St. Louis Mo,Willar Pringle of Toledo OH, Jessie Rose (Tommy) Greer of Saginaw MI. Preceded him in death Beadie Martin, Ray C. Tanksley, Osami Tanksley, Cepheus Ray Tanksley, Luna Mae Jackson, Alice Tanksley.
