Dorothy Palmer Moore

Dorothy P. Moore, age 93 of 1303 Boykins Avenue, Sanford, NC passed on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Central Carolina Hospital.

Dorothy Gilbert Palmer Moore, the daughter of the late Lillie Hill Palmer and James Melvin Palmer was born  in Chatham County on January 18, 1926. Dorothy grew up the family farm with her late siblings, John Lee Palmer, Sr., James Hilton Palmer, Orlander Palmer, Othelia Palmer Thompson, Melvin Palmer Griffin, and Ruby Palmer Brooks. She transitioned to her Heavenly Father peacefully on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford NC.

Dorothy was  baptized at an early age at  Macedonia A.M.E Zion Church, in Gulf , North Carolina. She was a faithful member of Blandonia Presbyterian Church until her death. As a servant, Dorothy founded the Blandonia Mission Closet as a way to carry the Church's message of love and service to the surrounding community. 

Dorothy earned her Diploma from the former Goldston Colored High school.  In 1955, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts  in Elementary Education from NC A&T State University, Greensboro, North Carolina. Her entire professional career was spent in education. She taught for over 40 years in the public schools system of Chatham and Lee County. 

Dorothy worked thorough out her life sharing her time and talents in various ways. After retiring, She lent her services as a volunteer with Central Carolina Hospital.  

Dorothy pleasant personality and willingness to help any and everyone, won her many friends in all walks of life. Everyone in the community loved Mrs. Dorothy and called upon her often and at any hour.  Anyone that had the pleasure of meeting her, could never forget her warm presence and gracious smile who would always leave you with the saying “GOD LOVES YOU AND SO DO I.”

Dorothy was blessed with a  loving family. She married her life partner and fellow educator the late Troy James Moore, in Durham, North Carolina 1954. 

Dorothy leaves to cherish her precious memories, one daughter, Shelia Moore Buckels (Byron); her pride and joy, grandchildren, Yolanda Penn (James), Kenneth Bethea (Ashley), Kendra Bethea Stepney (Daniel); great grand children, Kayla, Khalia, James Thomas, Zuri; one brother in law, Freeman Brooks (Susan), and one sister in law, Shirley Lassiter; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
