Mr. Donald Taylor, age 60 of 1001 W. Garden Street passed on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at his residence.
Donald “Donnie” E. Taylor, son of Larry and Claudia Taylor was born in Sanford, NC on November 27, 1957. He succumbed to complications due to his battle with cancer on February 20, 2018.
“Donnie” attended Sanford Central High School where he participated on the basketball team. He attended Blandonia Presbyterian Church at a young age with his family and participated in the choir.
“Donnie” graduated with the class of 1976 and entered the US Army with a job in Heavy Equipment Construction. During his time of service he participated with Hurricane Hugo Relief, also Desert Storm and Desert Shield. After 20 years of military service he retired in April 1997.
“Donnie” started working for the Greensboro Postal Service in November 1997 and retired in 2016 due to medical complications.
“Donnie” was loved throughout the community. He always had something crazy to say that made you laugh. He always had a smile on his face and made you feel like he was your brother. Being very competitive in all sports he was especially happy when Carolina beat Duke a couple of weeks ago.
In 1979 “Donnie” was united in matrimony to Wyona Leak Taylor. They were married for 38 years.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Wyona “Nona” Taylor; his daughter, Andrea “Nikki” Hopkins (Larry Jr.); his son, Donald “Dre” Taylor; grandchild, Analeigh Hopkins; father, Larry Taylor Sr.; mother, Claudia Taylor; siblings, Larry Taylor Jr., A. Carla Roache, Tracy Atkinson, and Yvonne and Lavon Johnson; brothers-in-law, Greg Davis, Arnando Leak and Tyrone Atkinson; sister-in-law, Stephanie Davis and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
