Mr. David Roscoe McIver Jr., age 76 formerly of Sanford, NC passed on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital, Mobile, AL.
David Roscoe McIver, Jr. was born on January 3, 1943 to the late Dorathy Marie McIver Grice and late David Roscoe McIver. He departed peacefully on January 14, 2019 at Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, Alabama.
David, affectionately called “Bug” by his siblings, received his education in the Lee County school system. In later years he was employed at Saint Vincent Hospital in New York, and Mobil Oil. David relocated from New York to Alabama in 1987. On November 27, 1991, he was wed to Katherine Blount. David went on to spend much time befriending and caring for the elderly in his surrounding area.
At Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, David enjoyed driving the bus for the Youth Ministry. He later became a member of Stone Street Baptist Church, Alabama’s oldest Baptist church (213 years old). He served faithfully under the leadership of Reverend Milton E. Saffold. He was a giver who shared his time, talent, and resources spreading his love for Christ and the gospel. His favorite quote was, “Jesus is Lord!” He enjoyed many Sundays listening to his wife, Katherine, singing in the choir.
David was a man of prayer who truly learned to “pray like David prayed” from the book of Psalms. He rarely engaged in conversation without lifting up the name of Jesus. David always included scripture references in his many cards and letters. He loved music, old cars, and had a knack for the “tailored look” when choosing his wardrobe. He was well-organized and loved to make collections of favorite poems, writings, and sayings.
David was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Dowdy and Marjorie Murchison; and his younger brother, Larry McIver.
David leaves to cherish his memories: a beautiful wife, Katherine of Mobile, Alabama; daughter, Sandra Cain (Gary) of Sanford, North Carolina; step-daughter, Ursula Gipson of Suwanee, Georgia; two sisters, Dorathy McIver-Dowdy and Linda Everette (William) both of Sanford, North Carolina; one brother, Wallace McIver (Gloria) of White Plains, New York; three grandchildren, Christopher, Justin, and Brandon, and three great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Jazmine, and Shamiya. He also leaves to mourn two beloved aunts, Remonia Spinks and Pastor Pearline McMillian both of Sanford, NC and Dorothy Pettiford of Burlington, North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Leverne Moore Boyzie of Mobile, Alabama and Margie Randell of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
