Bobbie Johnson Obituary

Bobbie Arthur Johnson, age 61 of 116 Harriet J. Ln., Sanford, NC passed on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at his residence.

BOBBIE ARTHUR JOHNSON, the youngest descendent of the late James and Harriet Chesney-Johnson, was born on June 15, 1957 in Lee County, NC. He attended Lee County Schools and graduated from the former Sanford Central High School, Sanford NC in 1975.

Bobbie accepted Christ and attended the family church - New Bethel FWB Church, Sanford NC. He later transferred his membership and united with the Potter’s House Church of God in Christ, Sanford, NC. He was a good friend with a giving spirit. His humble spirit and a dynamic smile greeted you when you met him. He understood the value of being open and available. He and Sarah loved to host large gatherings, where the young and not-so-young, were welcomed to great fellowship, great food and lots of fun. He was known to stand by a tree shooting the breeze with his brothers talking about the “good ole days.” He was known by his children and grandchildren as “Big Kid.” He always loved to pick and joke with them. This was a highlight when he came home from work.

Bobbie was employed at Valley Protein Processing Plant, Fayetteville, NC as a Truck Driver for 40 years and was looking forward to retiring in a few months.

During his last days with us, Bobbie enjoyed a three-hour lunch with his brothers and his nephews and the Thanksgiving feast with his extended family.

Bobbie traveled many miles each day on his truck and we now believe he was preparing for his final journey as he “officially signed-off” on Sunday morning, November 25, 2018 to be with his parents and siblings who had gone on before him. Our hearts are saddened, but we accept that God needed him more.

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, will be greatly missed. His legacy of love, his laughter, and his willingness to help shoulder the load will be remembered for a man who always, always lived life to the fullest.

Bobbie was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. James and Mother Harriet Chesney-Johnson and nine siblings: Willie, Melvin, Lillie Pearl, Pamela, Paul, Jimmy, Dennis, Jannie, and Jessie.

Cherishing Bobbie’s radiant life and rich legacy are: his life partner and wife, Sarah Douglas; his nine children: Andre, Michelle, and Angela Douglas of Sanford, NC; Bobbie and Carolyn Griffin of Sanford, NC; Darin and Travis Barnes of Fayetteville, NC; Queta Reid and Rodney Berryman of Sanford, NC; 32 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Deaconess Helen J. Covington and Annie J. Powell of Sanford, North Carolina; five brothers: Deacon Frederick D. Johnson, Robert D. Johnson, Thurman Johnson (Minister Annie), Herman Johnson (Minister Ola), and Wade L. Harrington (Minister Patricia) all of Sanford NC; his mother-in-law, Mother Juanita Douglas of Sanford NC; two sisters-in-law, Theresa Douglas and Miranda Graves of Sanford NC; one brother-in-law, Jonathan Douglas of Morrisville NC; and generations of nieces; nephews; cousins; co - workers; and friends.
