Bessie Lee (Headen) Glover

Bessie Lee Glover, age 85 of 2704 Cameron, Dr., Sanford, NC passed Friday, October 4, 2019 at Liberty Commons, Sanford, NC.

Bessie Lee Headen was born to the late James Dennis Headen Sr. and the late Arletha Guy McIntosh on August 23, 1934 in Chatham County, North Carolina. She changed time with eternity on October 4, 2019 at the age of 85.  Bessie resided in Sanford, North Carolina for the past 40 years. 

Bessie Lee loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was a carrier of his Word.  She joined Robert’s Chapel Baptist Church at an early age.  Bessie later became a member of Liberty Chapel Church in Moncure, NC where she remained a member until her death.  She served as Associate Minister under the leadership of Rev. Benjamin Whitlock and sang praises to her Lord with the Senior Choir.

She attended Goldston Colored School.  “Bessie Lee”, “Mrs. Bessie”, “Mama”, “Sis”, and “Aunt Bessie” as she loved to cook huge meals for her family and friends. She was known to let people into her home who needed a helping hand, helping them get on their feet, finding places of their own, and starting their lives again.  She was a mentor and help to so many people wherever she went. She loved flowers, plants, the outside and nature.  She always had a lovely canine companion.  The latest being Butch and Matthew.  She also had goldfish and her little Parakeet, “Little Mama”.   Bessie Lee had a style of her own; beautiful, fashionable, dressy, and classy! She loved life and she lived her life with joy and love!

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

She leaves to cherish treasured memories: her loving and devoted son, Allen Craven of the home; one brother, Adolphus Headen;  three sisters: Izetta Rives, Priscilla Headen, and Sharon Wicker; one goddaughter, Joyce Reid and a great-god daughter, her loyal niece, Myron Jones (Pruitt),  and a special cousin, Louise Guy, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
