Artis "Beat" Johnson, age 85 of 3819 Alston Chapel Rd., Pittsboro, NC passed on Wednesday, July 25, 2019 at his residence.

Artis Dan Johnson "Beat" was born August 21, 1933 to the late Eugene and Rose Johnson. He was educated in Chatham County School System at Horton High School, Pittsboro, NC.

"Beat" as he was known by many loved the sport of boxing. He pursued a career in boxing until he suffered a knee injury. Soon after he was employed by BorgWarner Inc., for 35 years.

"Beat was married to Bertha Mae Johnson and to this union three children were born. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Isom Johnson. He later remarried to Fannie Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Fannie Johnson; three children, Sabina Miller of Pittsboro, NC, Artis "LJ" Johnson (Diane) of Pittsboro, NC; Adrienne Allen of Michigan; two sisters, Rose L. Goines of Michigan and Pecolia Hemple of Pittsboro, NC;one brother, Henry "Major" Johnson of Michigan; six grandchildren;nine great-grandchildren; one great great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
