Ms. Carrie Minnie Alston, age 95, of Pittsboro, NC entered eternal rest on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Christian City Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Georgia.
Carrie Minnie Alston was affectionately known as “Lercy” among family and friends. She was born on July 21, 1928, to the late Adeline Brooks Headen.
Carrie Minnie was married to the late Isaac (Toot) Alston Jr. for 60-years. To this union four children were born, Robert (Pap), Carrie L., Percy (Gene), and Brenda.
Carrie Minnie received her education in Chatham County. She was employed with Wade Lemon Poultry and later used her skills as a CNA at Keller's Rest Home in Pittsboro. Carrie Minnie was a loving caregiver to several families in Chatham County.
In her early years, she joined St. Matthews A.M.E. Zion Church and remained faithful until her health declined. Carrie Minnie was a member of the choir, usher board and many other auxiliaries of the church. She later was honored as Mother Of The Church.
Carrie Minnie was a respected, notable and worthy woman of character illustrating moral virtues. Humbly, she became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, St. Thomas Chapter #644, Pittsboro. She was an exemplary Eastern Star by serving diligently to make various hardships lighter to others by means of cheerful companionship and engaged in good work in her community. She illustrated the virtues of heroines in the Bible; charity, truth, and loving kindness. Carrie Minnie served in many positions for over 40-years and was appointed as an Honorary Past Worthy Matron bearing the sash she proudly wears today.
Carrie Minnie loved cooking, baking and hosting family gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac (Toot) Alston Jr.; two sons, Robert (Pap), Percy (Gene); one grandson, Dee; six brothers, Clarence, Jimmy, Willie, Roy, Caesar, and Coy.
Carrie Minnie leaves to cherish her love and memory two daughters, Carrie L. Alston of Jonesboro, Georgia and Brenda Alston of Mableton, Georgia; six grandchildren, Loleta McCrimmon (Jeffrey), Terence Alston, Shana Lighty (Nickelous), Turkessa Greene (Bobby), Crystal Craven, Jeffrey Alston (Cheryl); ten great-grandchildren, DeMarus Scurlock (Ebony), NaTara Scurlock, Germaine Mapp (Aneara), Joshua Scurlock, Todd Harris, My'Iesha Alston, Kerri Alston, Tristian Alston, JasMariah Craven, Ta’son Arnold; three great-great grandchildren, Braelynn Mapp, Halo Harris, and Saint Mapp; two sisters, Cladie Green and Betty Smith; three sisters-in-law, Mary Headen, Brenda Headen, and Ester Headen and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
