Walter Edward Headen, Jr

Mr. Walter Edward Headen, Jr., 79  of Pittsboro, NC passed on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at UNC Hospital Hillborough Campus in Hillsborough, NC.

Walter Edward Headen Jr. was born on March 17, 1938 to the late Walter Clinton Headen Sr. & Esther Mae Gunter in Chatham County, NC and started his journey to his eternal life on August 27, 2017.
 
Walter was educated in the Chatham County Public Schools, and upon graduating from Horton High School moved to New York in 1956 and settled in Freeport, NY. He worked at and retired from HRM Manufacturing in Hauppauge, NY as a manager with 43 years of service. Walter cherished his family’s
homeplace in Moncure, NC where he returned to and lived during his retirement. 
 
He loved fellow-shipping and gathering with his family. Some of “Bubba’s” favorite pass-times and passions were listening to music, doting over his cars and playing cards with his family and buddies. He also enjoyed landscaping and was an avid sports fan. Walter had an immense work ethic that was
instilled in him by his grandparents, John and Olivia Headen. He was always a loving and kind gentleman. His impeccable manners, gratefulness and genuine appreciation for others touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. He was a member of Mt. View AME Zion Church in Moncure, NC where he
held many positions, last position being Sunday School Superintendent.
 
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Clinton Headen Sr. and mother Esther Mae Gunter; brothers; Ricky Headen and John Wayne Headen and first wife, Gussie Mae Waddell.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara Ann Headen; six daughters, Belinda Dorothy Ward, Cheryl Headen-Springer (Neil), Sharon Headen, Charisse Headen, Sheila Russell and Lori Delbridge; ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by three sisters, Esther Doris Alston,  Lubie Delane Lewis (William) and Rubie Delois Nunn (Louis); a brother, David Lee Headen; a special cousin/brother, Charles Raymond Headen (Josie) and a host of other relatives and many friends.
