Mr. Walter Cullen Bryant, age 94 of Rocky Mount, NC passed passed on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Rocky Mount Rehab Center, Rocky Mount, NC.
Mr. Walter Cullen Bryant was born on October 26, 1923 to Walter and Bessie S. Bryant in Rocky Mount, NC.
He attended the Rocky Mount Public Schools graduating from Booker T. Washington High School. He received an Associate Degree from the Norwalk School of Photography in New Jersey. He was the first and only black photographer in Rocky Mount and the surrounding areas for over 40 years. He photographed all the proms, weddings, school pictures, graduation pictures and special events. He was honored more than 5 times for his contributions to his community and his state. He was inducted into the NC Hall of Fame. Some of his work hangs in some of the city buildings in Rocky Mount. He was also an avid music lover. He played the bass violin with several Jazz bands. He was also employed by Stokes Mortuary for over 30 years.
He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a member of Masonic Unity Lodge #65, J. W. Moore Consistory #57 and Shiner Temple Rofelt Pasha #175.
He is survived by a daughter, Judie Moore Rice of Durham, NC; one sister, Mrs. Georgia Pettigrew of Maryland; five grandchildren, Leonardor Moore (Garwynne) of Atlanta, Ga., Victor Moore (Sylvia) of Wendell, NC, Curlie Moore of Atlanta, Ga. LaTonja Williams of Durham, NC and Anzio Williams of Philadelphia, Pa.; eight great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
