Salmon David Alston. 84, of 900 West Dolphin Street, Siler City, NC passed on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Siler City Center, Siler City, NC.

Mr. Salmon David Alston was born on September 22, 1932, the second of nine children born to the late Charlie and Evelyn Alston. He departed this life on July 12, 2017.

Salmon attended Chatham School prior to going to work for Gould’s Farm as a delivery person. Later changing jobs, he went to work for Webster’s Poultry Company, where he worked until his retirement in 2006. Salmon was married to Catherine Nettles and to this union was born six children.

Salmon spent the last year of his life at Genesis Health and Rehabilitation Center in Siler City, NC. A man of great faith and an attentive church goer at Mitchell Chapel AME  Zion Church, prior to his placement at Genesis. Salmon spent most of his time praying and fellowshipping with other Genesis residents, with his sunny disposition and crooked smile, he made many friends there. All who knew him, staff and residents alike affectionately termed him, the praying man. As one staff member solemnly put it, “we shall miss him greatly.”

Salmon was preceded in death by his son, Winston Rochelle Alston; parents, Charlie and Evelyn Alston; and one brother, Clyde Alston.

He is survived by his former wife, Catherine Nettles Alston Pittsboro, NC; two daughters, Wilma Jkolm Alston Peete, Pittsboro, NC and Veronica Alston Scotton (Clyde) Siler City, NC; three sons, Vinston Nettles (Maxine) Pittsboro, NC, Simon Alston, Pittsboro, NC and Marty Alston, Pittsboro, NC; five brothers, Jerry P Alston (Doris) Pittsboro, NC, David Alston, Bear Creek, NC, Cleveland Alston (Jewel), Pittsboro, NC, Dewitt Alston (Ann) Pittsboro, NC,  and Joseph Alston (Cynthia) Durham, NC;  two sisters, Maggie Trapp, Pittsboro, NC and Olivia Harrington, Pittsboro, NC; two uncles, Joseph Alston (Fleta) Durham, NC and Alvies Alston (Hazel) Pittsboro, NC; one aunt, Lily Burnette, Pittsboro, NC; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
