Mr. Raymond Dexter Barnes, age 76 of 2405 Knollwood Drive, Sanford, NC passed on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at North Carolina State Veterans Home - Fayetteville, NC.
Raymond Dexter Barnes was born December 28, 1941 to Harry Lee Barnes and Emma Jean Smith in Sanford, North Carolina. Raymond “Boss” was educated in the public schools of Lee County graduating from W.B. Wicker High School.
He entered in the United States Air Force in 1961 serving four years and eight months. After military life he entered into holy matrimony with Marian McLean Barnes and to that union four children were born. He worked for Independent National Insurance Company for 29 years.
Raymond was well received into the church community. He was an active member of the American Legion Post # 553. He was a singer and recording artist. Raymond recorded two songs, “Forever” and Devil in Disguise” which were popular songs in this area.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Emma Jean Smith and Harry Lee Barnes, Havril Lavard Barnes, and Lloyd Gregory Barnes.
Raymond “Boss” leaves to cherish his four children: Raymond Jerome Barnes of Sanford, NC, Tara Barnes of Fayetteville, NC, Tony Orlando Barnes of Durham, NC and Christopher Barnes (Angie) of Kansas; seven grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Jacquelyn Summerfield (Robert-deceased) of Highland Island Park, New York, Harry Barnes Jr. (Etta) of Fayetteville, Barbra McCormick (James-deceased) of Florida, Henaro Barnes (Brenda) of Sanford, NC, Bennie Barnes (Rosa) of Pennsylvania, Andrea Barnes (Pam), and Michael Barnes (Mildred) all of New York, Lorna Barnes Wilkins (Bernard) of Aberdeen, Melody Barnes of Florida and Anthony Barnes (Ana) of Virginia.
