Novella McKoy Chalmers, age 84 of 497 McKoy Town Rd., Cameron, NC passed on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.
Our dearly beloved Novella McKoy Chalmers, 84, of McKoy Town Road, Cameron, North Carolina was born on August 12, 1933 in Angier, NC to the late Bishop Paul and Mother Elsie McKoy. She quietly departed this life on Monday, December 3, 2017 in Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford, NC.
As a youth, Novella and her family moved from Angier, NC to the Johnsonville Community whereby she graduated from Johnsonville High School in Harnett County. She was the second oldest of her siblings, four of which preceded her in death. She married Jesse Chalmers in 1954 and she was a loving and devoted wife for almost 64 years. They resided in Grand Rapids, Michigan for a number of years before returning to Cameron, NC. Jesse and Novella became the proud parents of three children: Susan Martin of Dunn, NC, David Chalmers (Tamecha) of Hope Mills, NC, and Kymberly Chalmers of Cameron, NC.
Novella joined the Church of God in Christ Jesus in Angier, NC at a very early age and was baptized in Jesus Name at Angier Pond by Deacon Thomas. While in Michigan, she attended Bethel Pentecostal Church. Upon returning to North Carolina, she became an active member of The Pentecostal Assembly of Jesus Christ which is now the Worship Center, Southern Pines, NC, Bishop Roy McKoy, Pastor. Until failing health, she served as the Mother of the Church and as a member of the choir.
Novella was employed with “Cigar Supply”, Sanford, NC and retired from the “This End Up Furniture” also of Sanford, NC. She loved spending time and doing things with her children and husband. She also loved her community and enjoyed supporting and participating in several community projects and activities.
In addition to her children, Novella leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Dorothy M. Davis (Ellis), Sanford, NC; two brothers, Thomas McKoy (Elizabeth), Cameron, NC; and Bishop Roy McKoy (Costella), Pinehurst, NC; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
