James Edward Smith

James Edward Smith, age 78 of 386 Hatteras Lane, Sanford, NC passed on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford, NC. 

James Edward Smith was born December 20, 1939 to the late James A. Smith and the late Ethel Richardson Smith in Moore County. He departed this life on April 19, 2018 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC.

James worked in logging most of his life and later started clearing off land for farming and businesses.

He was married to the late Fannie McKoy. Fannie had two sons whom Edward raised as his own. A few years ago, James accepted the Lord as his personal Savior and began working in the church. He worked as a faithful member of Little Galilee until his death.

James was a man that was honest about how he felt about you. He cared about his family and friends and was there when you needed him. He loved cars and going fishing. James will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones.

James was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; four brothers; seven sisters and one stepson.

He leaves to cherish his memories: one sister, JoAnne Smith McCormick of Sanford, NC; one brother, Michael J. Smith of Upstate N.Y.; one stepson, Albert Kersey of Ohio; nine grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Annie Jane Griffen and Zelma Smith; one special friend, Elnora McIver and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive family and friends at 885 Bullard Road, Sanford, NC 27332
