James Hill

Mr. James W. Hill, age 93 of 292 Moncure Loop, Moncure, NC passed on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford, NC.

James Walter Hill, son of the late Bradley and Eva Hill, was born June 22, 1924. He entered into eternal rest on February 4, 2018.

James attended Gum Springs School. He joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church at an early age where he remained faithful. He loved serving as an usher and he loved sing with the Mt. Olive Male Chorus. He especially loved traveling “with the boys.” He attended service faithfully until his health began to fail.

James retired from Carolina Power and Light Company after more than 30 years of service. Following retirement, he continued to work several part-time jobs simultaneously until the age of 89. His courtship with Mildred Douglas began when he saw her walking down the road and he told her “I’m coming to see you Sunday.” They were united in marriage on November 30, 1946. To this union two daughters whom he adored were born.

He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Mary L. Hill Dowdy.

He leaves to cherish his memories: the love of his life, Mildred Douglas Hill of the home; two daughters, Brenda Horton (Charles) of Clinton, MD and Marilyn Hill of Moncure, NC; two grandsons, Corey Hill (Angela) of Raleigh, NC, Jared Horton of Baltimore, MD; two great grandchildren, Marcus and Ariana Hill of Raleigh, NC; two sisters-in-law, Jean Bazzell of Springdale, MD and Dorothy Howard of Newark, DE; three nieces, Shirley Hicks, Linda McIver and Rhonda Hanna; three godsons, Charles Raines, Iven Dark and John Smith; one god daughter, Darlene Taylor. He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.
