Carolyn E. Murchison

Mrs. Carolyn E. Murchison, age 64 of 37 J D Murchison Lane, Sanford, NC passed on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at her residence.

Carolyn Elaine Murchison was born on April 11, 1953, to the union of Henry Lee and Fannie Isabelle Dowd in Pinehurst, North Carolina. She entered eternal rest November 14, 2017, at her home on 37 J. D. Murchison Lane in Sanford, North Carolina. 

Carolyn grew up in Moore County and attended Union Pines High School where she graduated in June 1971. She went on to higher education at Sandhills Community and Central Carolina Community College.

Carolyn met a young man by the name of Paul Murchison, Jr. in April 1971. They married on February 12, 1972 in Bennettsville, South Carolina. In August of 1972, she became a military wife and was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi and Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.  

Carolyn was a loving mother to her five children and spent time volunteering in their schools where she faithfully attended school functions. She served as a PTA officer, Brownie Scout Mom and Girl Scout Mom.

Carolyn was very passionate about working with young people. She substituted at multiple schools within Harnett County Schools. She became a Teacher Assistant and School Bus Driver in the Harnett County School system at Johnsonville Elementary School and Highland Elementary School. She retired from Harnett County School system in January 2014.

As a member of Pilgrims’ Rest Church, Carolyn devoted her time to serving the young people there. She was a Sunday School Teacher and a long-time president of the Pilgrims’ Rest Youth Department. Carolyn later became a Deaconess and member of the mother board.

 Among the things that Carolyn enjoyed were traveling to the beach and the mountains. Her favorite destination was North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She spent many anniversaries and holidays there.  She also enjoyed trying new recipes and fixing some of her classic dishes for others to enjoy.

Carolyn leaves to cherish her memories: her husband of nearly 46 years, Paul Murchison, Jr.; one son, Paul Maurice Murchison (Ineke); four daughters, Yolanda Black (Calvin), Renetta Murchison, Carla Murchison, Christina Gilmore (Steven); one sister, Laura Sue Johnson; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews.
