Archie Celestine (Johnson) McLeod

Ms. Archie Celestine McLeod, age 82 of 328 Linden Ave., Sanford, NC passed on Friday, December 22, 2017 at her residence.

To be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord…Archie Celestine McLeod was born on February 17, 1935 to Goldie and Utley Johnson in Carthage NC.

In her younger days she was a star basketball player at Pickney High School in Carthage NC. She often bragged that her sons inherited all of their athletic abilities from her.

She received numerous certificates and ultimately retired as a caregiver in 1996.

Throughout her life she enjoyed working in her garden, planting flowers, shopping for hats and matching attire to wear to First Calvary Baptist Church, where she attended faithfully until her health declined. She was a devoted mother who gave her all until her final days. Everyone who has ever encountered her enjoyed her company and grew to love her.

She was preceded in death by her two beloved sons, Exselon McLeod Jr. and Jeffrey Lynn Reaves; her siblings: June, Samuel, Mary, Majorie, Bobby, Annie Claire and Georgia; a granddaughter, Nikita McLeod; a daughter-in-law, Linda Johnson, and earlier this year, her best friend of many years, Sally Underwood.

Celestine leaves to mourn her death: Larry Johnson of Kenosha, WI, Michael McLeod (Cheryl) of Wadesboro, NC, Evelyn Reaves, Cynthia McLeod, Melvin McLeod (Donna), Della Melvin, and a special granddaughter who she raised in her home Lakia Gilmore (Paul) all of Sanford NC; ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a special friend who visited her faithfully for the past 10 years, Ismay Parrish, and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
