Annie P. Ervin

July 6, 1924 ~ August 15, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Annie P. Ervin age 93, of 738 E. 30th Street Baltimore, MD passed on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Universal Healthcare & Rehab Concord, NC.

Annie Phillips Ervin was born on July 6, 1924 in Sanford County, North Carolina, to the late Donnie Phillips and Annie Chesney. She was the youngest girl of seven children: Erma, Tommy, Kitty, Ben Lee, Willie Beatrice, and John. At an early age, she married her childhood sweetheart Waddy Ervin. She was a faithful member of Fair Promise A.M.E Zion Church, Sanford, NC.

Annie began working as a domestic worker at a very young age to help take care of her family. At eighteen year of age, Annie was employed at the Naval Operating Base, Norfolk, VA. Naval Air Station where she performed a host of duties to include Laundry and Ship Server.

In 1956, Annie with her husband moved to Baltimore, MD where she resided for 60 plus years preceding his death. There she fostered many lifelong friendships with neighbors and other people within the community. Annie had so many names; to her friends she was just “Bill” or “Billie”, to the community she was “Miss Annie’”, to her many nieces and nephews she was “Aunt Bill” and to her family she was “Bill”. She was a “SECOND MOTHER” to all of her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and everyone else’s children.

Annie was a fabulous host, tremendous dancer, excellent cook, and she loved good music. Her favorite past time was hosting a grand party that started on Friday and lasted through Sunday, you slept when you went home. She along with her brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, and even the great nieces and nephews traveled from the South to the North and back parting up and down I-95 and those homemade biscuits were too die for. Nothing was more enjoyable than to see her at family functions bopping or going down the Soul Train Line at a party. She knew how to draw a crowd and it was hard to get her to sit down once she got on the dance floor.

Annie was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, community servant, friend and great role model. She exemplified in all that she did the Greatest Commandment, “Love your neighbor as you would love yourself”, and for this she will be missed the most.

Annie leaves to cherish her memory her nephew, Thomas Reaves (Buddy) and a host of great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and friends.
